The Keystone Ancient Forest Preserve is perhaps the most important contribution thus far of the Ancient Cross Timbers Consortium. The Preserve was made possible by the generous contributions of the original land owner, Mr. Irv Frank. The Nature Conservancy (especially Mr. Chris Wilson), the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, University of Arkansas Tree-Ring Laboratory (Dave Stahle and Matt Therrell), Dr. Mike Palmer of Oklahoma State University, and many others made important contributions to the realization of this public-access ancient forest bioreserve in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The Preserve is now owned by the City of Sand Springs, operated by the City Parks Department and Mr. Grant Gerondale, with advice and assistance from The Nature Conservancy. The Preserve opened to the public on Oct. 3, 2007 with a public ceremony honoring Mr. Frank and another original landowner, Mr. Sam Childers. Access to the Preserve can be arranged for groups, and during open house days for individuals, by contacting the Sand Springs Parks Department at (click on the link “Keystone Ancient Forest”):
